Happy Campers

By a curious coincidence, my mother just arrived back from Mallorca, home of Camper shoes, with this badge.

One of my favourite lines in film is from The Treasure of the Sierra Madre. Some Mexican bandits are trying to pass themselves off as the army or police, and they're challenged by Humphrey Bogart to show their badges. "Badges? We don' need to show you no steenkin' badges!"

But on this occasion I feel the need to do so.

For philosophical exposition, see yesterday's post.

Look - it will all seem much better if you go and have a nice lie-down in a cool room!

What, you want me to explain badges?!

You've lost me here - badges are too esoteric for my tiny mind. Were you thinking of going into business?

'Get your Atman here - any shape or size'.

Well, the badge says "A little better, never perfect".

A pithy way to explain a whole philosophy of life which is about starting from where you are, with the materials to hand, and doing your best, day by day.

As opposed to ... starting from something you haven't a clue about, that you only had word of second hand, but which you imagine and take on trust to be universal.

Maybe I should stick to the philosophy, people seem to find it easier to follow.

Please keep on going with whatever comes to hand. We'll no doubt catch up.

Maybe we could have a summer competition? Design a School badge.

Julie may already have submitted an entry: 'Get your Atman here - any shape or size.'

As a first shot I'll offer,
'Bread and cheese is sure to please,
Sacred cows are slower.
Sanscrit's long and time is short,
Matters not if hits the spot.'

???? not sure if this is a badge exactly, needs a large chest to do it justice - or very good eyesight.

This one is credited to a poet friend of mine:

"SES: we've got the knowledge if you've got the ignorance!"
